Letter to the editor: Zellers best pick for judge

Tribune-Review

Voters for magisterial district judge in District 10-1-04 have a simple decision to make.

A vote for Leslie Uncapher Zellers is a vote for fairness, community service and family. Tough on crime, but fair and understanding, she’s experienced courtrooms many ways, most importantly, court-appointed to protect kids. As assistant district attorney in Westmoreland County, she’s prosecuted cases of all kinds, which is where I first met her as a young state trooper. She’s very experienced in family law, extremely important in district courts.

I’ve grown to respect her even more with all she does in the community, especially her endeavors “backing the blue,” assisting families of fallen police officers and supporting officers risking their lives every day.

Cheryl Peck Yakopec has been a good judge; however, a vote for Peck Yakopec is not a vote for Peck Yakopec. In the article “Peck Yakopec, Zellers to vie for district judge seat” (Oct. 11, TribLIVE), she noted she would turn 75 several years into her six-year term and would then certify as senior judge to complete her term. Her replacement could then be selected by the governor to complete the final two-thirds of her term.

Do you really want to vote for an “unknown” judge, selected by the governor? Of course not! Vote for the “known,” the highly qualified, experienced, community-minded Leslie Uncapher Zellers.
