Letter to the editor: Zellers should be next judge

Tribune-Review

It has been said that “there is no substitute for experience.” But there is a substitute for experience … and that is the truth.

The truth is that our district deserves a full-time judge for a full six-year term. I believe Leslie Uncapher Zellers is the only candidate for district judge who can make and fulfill that promise.

Unlike our incumbent district judge of 29 years, Zellers will not face mandatory retirement halfway through the next term. If you don’t know the facts about mandatory retirement of Pennsylvania judges, you should.

Zellers is experienced. She has been practicing law for 32 years in the district. She worked as a prosecutor in Westmoreland County. She has represented countless clients and families in our district. She knows the law, she knows the rules of evidence and she has the judicial temperament to serve us as our district judge in a fair and respectful manner. She also knows our communities and has been active working and volunteering for us for many years.

Sometimes, when elected officials stay in office for too long, they become complacent with a sense of entitlement. Zellers believes in term limits, and so do I.

Zellers should be our next district judge.
