In brief: Memorial Day events, pool passes available and more in Shaler area

Passes for Etna’s pool are currently available.

Shaler Memorial Day parade and service

Shaler Township’s Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:45 a.m. May 27 at Morewood Road. It will proceed to Mt. Royal Cemetery, where a service will take place. The event is conducted by the Shaler American Legion Post 785 and VFW Post 9199.

Etna Memorial Day parade

Etna’s Memorial Day parade starts at 9:30 a.m. May 27 on Butler Street. It will be followed by a service at the War Memorial at 11:30 a.m.

Etna pool passes available

Season passes for Etna’s pool are currently available. Cost is $150 per family and $105 for individuals who are residents of Etna Borough. Residents of Shaler Area and Fox Chapel school districts are $190 per family and $120 for individual passes. Etna Borough senior citizens can receive passes for free with proof of residency. Applications are available online at etnaborough.org.

125th committee

Shaler Township is looking for a committee to help with planning a year-long celebration to commemorate its 125th anniversary in 2025. If interested, complete a questionnaire at shaler.org by June 14.

Free community meal

Looking for a night off from cooking? A time to socialize with friends and neighbors? Bethlehem Lutheran Church is hosting a free community meal the first Monday of each month, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1719 Mount Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. The next dinner is on June 3. Spencer Matan graduated with honors from the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering with a degree in civil engineering.
