How confident are you in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ chances to win the Super Bowl this season? Apparently, only about one in 50 are willing to put their money where their mouth is.
Two percent of the betting public has backed the Steelers to win the NFL championship this season, according to www.SportsBetting.ag. When it comes to winning the AFC North, 14% have wagered on the Steelers.
The public is backing the Cleveland Browns (47%) and Baltimore Ravens (28%) for the division crown — even when accounting for the lower payouts a wager on either of those teams would earn than a bet on the Steelers would. (The Cincinnati Bengals can claim a backing of a mere 11%).
Eleven of the NFL’s 32 teams have more than a 2% public backing in regards to Super Bowl futures wagers; the Steelers are one of 10 teams that are at 2%. The Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and Detroit Lions have bettor support that rounds down to 0%.
Last season’s two conference champions — the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (16%) and Kansas City Chiefs (15%) — have the most backing, followed by the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills at 7%.
Bettors are split on the Steelers’ win total. Set at 8.5 — exactly .500 — 49% have taken the “over” and 51% the “under.”
The only Steelers player to appear among a top three in prop bets that have attracted the most wagers is Najee Harris, who is third behind Ezekiel Elliott and Derrick Henry in support to lead the NFL in rushing.
Interestingly, though, Harris is not among the top four in wagering for offensive rookie of the year. He trails quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields and Mac Jones.
