The Pittsburgh Pirates have 20 pitchers and 20 position players on their 40-man roster as the 2026 season approaches. Here’s a look at each player:

45 HUNTER BARCO 6-4 229 LHP

Top-100 prospect had 116 strikeouts in 99⅓ innings in 27 appearances (23 starts) between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis.

14 JOEY BART 6-2 242 C

After hitting 13 HR with 83 RBIs in 80 games in 2024, took a step backward by going for four HR, 30 RBIs in 93 games last year.

77 BRANDAN BIDOIS 6-2 174 RHP

Australian won Kent Tekulve Award as top reliever after posting lowest ERA (0.74) in all of the minors, 64-batter stretch without allowing a hit.

76 JACK BRANNIGAN 6-0 201 INF

After season-ending surgery on his right (throwing) shoulder, suffered a broken nose on a bad hop in first Grapefruit League game this spring.

55 TYLER CALLIHAN 5-11 205 INF/OF

Acquired from the Reds for RHP Kyle Nicolas, batted .303/.410/.528 in 24 games at Triple-A before season-ending left wrist surgery.

36 BUBBA CHANDLER 6-3 206 RHP

MLB Pipeline’s No. 15 prospect dazzled with triple-digit heat after mid-August debut, going 4-1 with 0.93 WHIP, 31Ks/4BB in seven games.

25 BILLY COOK 6-0 204 1B/OF

Played only three games for the Pirates last year, hitting eight homers with 46 RBIs at Indy but a strong spring training has helped his cause.

15 ONEIL CRUZ 6-7 248 OF

Hit 20 home runs for second consecutive year, tied for NL lead with 38 stolen bases but must improve his .102 batting average against lefties.

32 HENRY DAVIS 5-11 225 C

Developed defensively and as game caller to become Paul Skenes’ personal catcher but batted .167 with seven HR, 22 RBIs in 87 games.

86 WILBER DOTEL 6-3 238 RHP

Signed as an undrafted free agent, led all Pirates minor leaguers in strikeouts (131), starts (27) and innings pitched (125⅔).

43 RAFAEL FLORES 6-3 232 C/IB

Acquired from the Yankees in the David Bednar trade, played 46 games at Triple-A before making his MLB debut last September.

34 JHOSTYNXON GARCIA 6-0 224 OF

Acquired from the Red Sox for Johan Oviedo, former top-100 prospect hit a combined 44 home runs past two seasons in the minors.

3 NICK GONZALES 5-8 193 INF

Missed first two months with fractured left ankle, then had five homers with 30 RBIs in 96 games but could switch to shortstop this season.

After sustaining an arm injury to his teres major and lat musculature in spring training, the righty reliever was shut down for six weeks.

78 THOMAS HARRINGTON 6-2 210 RHP

Former top-100 prospect had 15.58 ERA in three games (one start) last season, went 7-9 with 5.34 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) at Indy.

2 SPENCER HORWITZ 5-10 204 1B

Missed first two months following wrist surgery but batted .277 with .922 OPS, eight home runs, 27 RBIs over his final 50 games.

17 JARED JONES 6-0 211 RHP

Missed all of 2025 season after undergoing InternalBrace surgery on his right elbow. Will start season on 60-day injured list, return in late May.

89 ANTWONE KELLY 5-10 238 RHP

Undrafted free agent from Aruba led all Pirates full-season minor league starters in ERA (3.02), batting average against (.208) with 116 Ks.

61 JUSTIN LAWRENCE 6-3 211 RHP

Missed most of last season with right forearm inflammation but was 1-0 with 0.51 ERA in 17⅔ innings and solidified spot with strong spring.

5 BRANDON LOWE 5-9 181 2B

Two-time All-Star acquired from Tampa Bay is coming off a 31-homer, 83-RBI campaign, had 39 homers, 99 RBIs in 2021.

28 JAKE MANGUM 5-11 191 OF

Speedy lefty acquired from Rays tied for MLB lead with 32 infield hits, is above-average defender capable of playing all three outfield spots.

72 ISAAC MATTSON 6-2 214 RHP

Dependable reliever with disappearing fastball that is one of most devastating pitches in the bullpen, had 45 strikeouts in 47⅔ innings.

50 CARMEN MLODZINSKI 6-2 210 RHP

Has starter’s stuff with seven-pitch mix but has fared better in bullpen, where he had 1.93 ERA, 1.02 WHIP in second half last season.

46 MASON MONTGOMERY 6-2 205 LHP

Acquired from Tampa Bay, gives Pirates another dangerous lefty who touches 100 mph with his fastball but has to show better command.

29 RYAN O’HEARN 6-2 220 1B/OF

Marquee free-agent signing to two-year, $29 million contract coming off All-Star season where he hit .281 with .803 OPS, 17 homers, 63 RBIs.

24 MARCELL OZUNA 6-1 251 DH

Three-time All-Star slugger with 296 homers, 948 RBIs in 13 seasons, signed one-year, $12 million deal to provide middle-of-the-order thump.

49 YOHAN RAMIREZ 6-3 205 RHP

Had a 5.40 ERA, 1.47 WHIP but 55 strikeouts in 33⅓ innings, which makes him a candidate for fireman role in the bullpen.

10 BRYAN REYNOLDS 6-2 210 OF

Switching to left field after playing right last year, when he slumped to .245 with .720 OPS but still led team with 73 RBIs in 154 games.

13 ENDY RODRIGUEZ 6-0 207 C/1B

Opening Day starter at first base batted .173 in 18 games before missing majority of season with injuries, including recurring elbow issues.

64 CAM SANDERS 6-2 215 RHP

Made his MLB debut in early August, posted 8.10 ERA with more walks (five) than strikeouts (four) in 6⅔ innings over six appearances.

60 DENNIS SANTANA 6-2 202 RHP

Opponents batted .159 against his slider, drew an elite chase rate (34.6%) and filled in as closer with 18 saves in David Bednar’s absence.

48 EVAN SISK 6-2 214 LHP

Acquired from the Royals in the Bailey Falter trade, the funky lefty sidewinder had a 4.38 ERA with 14 Ks/5BB in 14 appearances.

30 PAUL SKENES 6-6 260 RHP

Unanimous NL Cy Young winner led MLB with 1.97 ERA/217 ERA+, had 20 quality starts, set franchise record for strikeouts by RHP (216).

31 GREGORY SOTO 6-1 247 LHP

Two-time All-Star with 56 careers saves, including 30 in 2022, signed one-year, $7.75 million deal to serve in high-leverage role.

19 JARED TRIOLO 6-3 212 INF

The 2024 Gold Glove utility winner projected to start at third base after batting .276/.353/.422 with 16 extra-base hits in final 52 games.

65 JOSE URQUIDY 6-0 225 RHP

Went 27-16 with 3.89 ERA in 70 starts in five seasons with Astros before Tommy John surgery, competing for final spot in rotation.

47 ENMANUEL VALDEZ 5-8 202 INF

Versatile defender who can play both corners suffered season-ending shoulder surgery while sliding head-first into third base in May.

85 ESMERLYN VALDEZ 6-2 234 OF

Top-10 Pirates prospect was Willie Stargell slugger of year after hitting 26 homers with 86 RBIs split between High-A Greensboro and Altoona.

38 NICK YORKE 5-11 220 INF

Batted .232 with .583 OPS in 22 games for Pirates but had 31 extra-base hits, 59 RBIs at Indy and has value with positional versatility.
