Three takeaways from the Penguins’ 5-1 road loss to the Islanders on Tuesday night:

Streak ends

The Penguins were blanked on their lone power-play opportunity of the game, which began at 9:50 of the first period. Their lone shot during the opportunity was recorded by forward Sidney Crosby at the 11:14 mark.

That futility snapped a streak of 10 games with at least one power-play goal for the Penguins.

Their last game without a power-play goal was a 3-2 overtime home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Nov. 29.

For the season, the Penguins have scored 26 goals on 112 power-play opportunities, equating to a conversion rate of 23.2%.

Under fire

Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry made 38 saves on 43 shots in the contest.

It was the second-most shots he has faced this season. The high-water mark remains the 47 shots he saw during a 6-3 road loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 24.

Ruhwedel out

Penguins defenseman Chad Ruhwedel did not record a shift beyond the 1 minute, 45 second mark of the second period due to an undisclosed injury.

Should he not be available for Wednesday’s home game against the Detroit Red Wings, reserve defenseman Mark Friedman presumably would make his NHL season debut.

Recalled to the NHL roster for the third time this season on Tuesday morning, Friedman has appeared in 19 AHL games this season for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and has scored five points (one goal, four assists).

Follow the Penguins all season long.
