All three starting cornerbacks were among eight significant contributors on offense or defense who did not take part in Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Steelers practice because of injury.
All eight of the ailments were previously known. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson and tight end Pat Freiermuth (concussion) were listed as a limited participants on the injury report, but starting strong safety Terrell Edmunds was a full participant as he makes an expected return Sunday after a missed game because of a concussion.
Cornerbacks Cameron Sutton (hamstring), Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) and Levi Wallace (concussion); safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee); tight end Zach Gentry (knee); defensive tackles Larry Ogunjobi (back) and Montravius Adams (hip) and center Mason Cole (foot) all were absent from Wednesday’s workout at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
Witherspoon missed this past Sunday’s loss at the Buffalo Bills, and Sutton, Wallace, Freiermuth and Ogunjobi left that game early. Fitzpatrick previously had been dealing with a knee ailment, and Cole was spotted in the Steelers locker room Monday in a walking boot.
