The Pittsburgh Penguins made 10 selections on Day 2 of the 2025 NHL Draft on Saturday: four defensemen, five forwards and a goalie through rounds 2-7.

Penguins vice president of player personnel Wes Clark offered insights into each player as well as general scouting reports of the newest additions to the organization’s prospect pool.

Primary 2023-24 team, league: Swift Current Broncos, Western Hockey League

Statistics: 53 games, 14 points (five goals, nine assists)

Height: 6-foot-6

Weight: 194 pounds

Shoots: Right

Notes: A native of Winnipeg, British Columbia, Kettles has played two full campaigns with the Broncos. Despite his youth, the 17-year-old Kettles enjoyed a significant role on his team, averaging 22 minutes, 12 minutes per contest last season, via Neutral Zone, while playing on the penalty kill and power play. Kettles was a defense partner of 21-year-old Penguins defenseman Owen Pickering with Swift Current for parts of two seasons (2022-24).

Clark’s scouting report: “Extremely young for the draft class. 6-foot-6. Right shot. Elite defensive stick. Super competitive. Tough. He checks a lot of boxes (as we are) trying to improve certain qualities on the back end here with the depth we have in the prospects.”

Statistics: 63 games, 20 points (six goals, 14 assists)

Height: 6-foot-2

Weight: 201 pounds

Notes: Trethewey is committed to Boston University and will soon begin his college career. Before he got underway with the USNTDP, Trethewey moved to Pittsburgh along with his father to play for the Penguins Elite Hockey program, where he spent his under-14 and under-15 seasons before relocating to Michigan. Trethewey is originally from Ellicott City, Md.

Clark’s scouting report: “Charlie came into the year with big expectations — projected first-round pick, National Program kid, going to BU. We liked the upside as a two-way guy. He makes a really good first pass. Strong defensively, intelligent, competitive. We liked the paths. Obviously it’s a bonus when he comes up through the (Penguins Elite) program.”

Notes: D’Aigle’s hometown of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, is the same as Marc-Andre Fleury, and the two have a relationship, having trained together in the past. D’Aigle’s Tigres struggled immensely last season, going 17-34-1. Of his team’s 17 wins, D’Aigle was in net for 16 of them.

Clark’s scouting report: “Our (director of goaltending) Jon Elkin had him really high on the board. So we trust Jon with the goalie evaluations. We try to stay out of that, and it just lined up where we were able to get him.”

Notes: In his first year of USHL competition, Peddle helped the Black Hawks advance to the Clark Cup, where he and Waterloo fell to Carter Sanderson, chosen in the sixth round (No. 169 overall) by the Penguins on Saturday, and the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

Clark’s scouting report: “Another big left-shot (defenseman) that provides a ton of defensive utility.”

Notes: Throughout his front office career in Toronto and Pittsburgh, Kyle Dubas has shown a preference for the familiar in his drafting and hiring decisions. A Sault Ste. Marie native, Dubas was general manager of the Greyhounds, Hayes’ junior club, from 2011-14. Hayes has completed two seasons in a Greyhounds uniform, scoring 35 goals with 51 assists through 123 career games. He is the younger brother of 22-year-old undrafted Penguins winger prospect Avery Hayes.

Clark’s scouting report: “Probably not too dissimilar to his brother. He’s super competitive. Hungry. Really good shooter. Loves to score goals. Strong at the net. So very similar to Avery. Underdog mindset. Like the upside.”

Clark’s scouting report: “Ryan Miller, another guy that (amateur scouts) Robbie Sandland and Dan McLean were really passionate about. Had a great playoffs with (Portland). … Super-competitive winger that hunts pucks, relentless — certain things that we obviously covet.”

Clark’s scouting report: “Right-shot (defenseman), two-way guy, makes a really strong pass, defends well, intelligent. We’ll see where that one goes, but Brandon Defazio and Chris Roque, our guys in Ontario, were really passionate about him at that spot.”

Clark’s scouting report: “Jordan Charron’s another Soo kid, just circumstance that we get two guys from the Soo and Kyle (Dubas is) from the Soo, too. Another kid that’s really early in his development curve. Small sample there in the OHL. Guys were passionate about him in that spot, so we’ll see where that goes the next couple of years.”

Notes: Sanderson, 17, is a native of Pierre, S.D. Last season was Sanderson’s first junior hockey campaign, and he ended things as a Clark Cup champion, helping Muskegon to an overtime Game 5 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks. He is a University of North Dakota commit for 2026-27.

Clark’s scouting report: “Our area scout, Brandon Dennis, was super passionate about him. Super, super competitive. Type of kid that may not show up on the stat sheet just yet. Extremely young, too, for the draft class. First year in the USHL, wins the championship. But that credit goes to Brandon Dennis, just loved his competitiveness and the way he plays the game to influence it, to help the team win.”

Clark’s scouting report: “He played in Sherwood Park, BCHL. He’s actually going to join Calgary, we believe, next year. Play with (first-round pick Ben Kindel), and then going to Penn State. Area scouts had a lot of time for him where he was. … Two-way guy that produced at a pretty good clip in a pretty good league. So, our model was high on him at that point. We’ll see where that one goes, as well.”
