Peyton Kondis is off to another strong start with the Houston women’s swim team.

The Plum resident and Oakland Catholic graduate was named American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week after winning the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and helping the 200 and 400 medley relays win in a dual meet at Florida Gulf Coast.

Kondis, the two-time conference champion (100 breast) and NCAA qualifier, swam the 13th-fastest time nationally this season in the 100 breast (1:01.09) and seventh-fastest in the 200 breast (2:11.38).

Football

IUP: Duane Brown (Apollo-Ridge) scored a 2-yard touchdown out of the wildcat in a 35-6 victory over Edinboro. The TD gives him 18 — 13 receiving and five rushing — through 10 games. He leads the team with 846 receiving yards. IUP (9-1, 6-1 PSAC) caps its regular season Saturday at Shippensburg.

Women’s basketball

IUP: Senior guard Natalie Myers (Burrell) averaged 19 points in her first two games of the season, both wins. The senior guard, in her second season with IUP, had 22 points (8-for-12 shooting), sank six 3-pointers and grabbed six rebounds against Davis & Elkins and added 16 points with four 3-pointers and 10 rebounds against West Virginia Wesleyan.

Washington & Jefferson: Maria Lawhorne (Plum) started and scored eight points in a season-opening 61-57 victory over La Roche. The junior forward averaged 9.5 points and 5.3 rebounds last season.

Allegheny: Senior guard Zoe Solis (Freeport) finished with 10 points, added a team-leading seven rebounds and provided three assists to help Allegheny top Bethany, 58-43, in its season opener.

Men’s basketball

Allegheny: Senior guard Brendon Urso (Fox Chapel) made his first collegiate start and scored eight points in a season-opening 86-81 victory over Carnegie Mellon. He hit a 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining to give Allegheny an 83-79 lead.

Men’s soccer

Gannon: Ben Andrews (Knoch) scored 37 seconds into overtime to lift the Golden Knights to a 3-2 win over Mercyhurst on Nov. 6 to clinch the program’s first PSAC regular-season title. Gannon (16-1) will face West Chester at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the PSAC semifinals.

Penn State New Kensington: Freshman Gerald Butler Jr. (Highlands) was selected as a first-team All-Star in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. He was an anchor of the defense and added two goals and an assist for the Lions, who finished 9-6 overall, 7-2 in conference play and advanced to the semifinals of the PSUAC Tournament.

Washington & Jefferson: Michael Komaniak (Riverview) scored his eighth goal of the season in the Presidents’ 4-2 victory over Geneva in the PSAC title game. The Presidents take on John Carroll on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Women’s volleyball

Westminster: Freshman Kaylee Sciubba (Deer Lakes) provided season highs of eight kills and eight blocks in a 3-1 victory over Geneva in the PAC championship match. Westminster (26-6) will take on Susquehanna at 3 p.m. Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Robert Morris: Lauren Kolenik (Plum/Serra Catholic) paced the Colonials with 12 kills, two blocks and a service ace in a 3-0 sweep of St. Francis (N.Y.). It was the program’s school-record 14th conference victory of the season. RMU (24-3 overall, 14-0 Northeast Conference) visits Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday and Central Connecticut State on Saturday to cap conference play.

Thiel: Courtney Grubbs (Freeport) was selected first-team All-PAC. The sophomore setter finished third in the conference with an average of 7.85 assists per set. Grubbs also was second on the team with 304 digs and third with 36 blocks.
