Paxton Lynch hasn’t yet been told if his time on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 53-man roster is coming to an end, but he knows that his role as the No. 2 quarterback has.

But the former first-round pick is appreciating his time with the Steelers, regardless.

“It’s been good, I feel great, and it’s starting to come along (learning) the offense,” Lynch said.

“I know that bye week, even though we only had one day of letting me get some reps out there, that was really beneficial to me. Even though it was only one day, for me, it was getting those reps, getting an opportunity to see it on the field. I think that’s what helped me the most — so I took that one day and kind of took it as much as I could.”

The No. 26 overall pick of the 2016 draft, Lynch was signed to the practice squad by the Steelers last month after the season-ending injury to Ben Roethlisberger. At the time, coach Mike Tomlin cited Lynch’s practice-squad eligibility as part of their reasoning in choosing Lynch over more established veteran quarterbacks.

Lynch was bumped up to the active roster following the concussion suffered by new starter Mason Rudolph, and Lynch served as the primary backup to undrafted rookie Devlin Hodges during the Steelers’ victory at the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 13.

With Rudolph cleared to return, Hodges slides back into the No. 2 role. While the Steelers traditionally have kept three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, they did not for the three weeks after Lynch was initially signed.

Lynch said he had “no idea” if the Steelers planned to move him back to the practice squad prior to Monday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
