ACC officially cancels spring sports season
The ACC announced Tuesday it is shutting down all athletic-related activities, including all competition and practices, through the end of the 2019-20 academic year.
It was a unanimous decision made to mitigate the further spread of coronavirus.
Each university will continue to work in accordance with its school and state policies.
“Our top priority remains the health and safety of our student-athletes as well as our fans, communities and the overall well-being of others during these uncharted times,” ACC commissioner John Swofford said in a statement.
“We are particularly disappointed for our student-athletes and will continue to work with our membership to assess what is appropriate in the future.”
Also, the National Junior College Athletic Association announced Monday all spring sports are canceled. That decision affects Westmoreland County Community College, Butler County Community College, Community College of Allegheny County — Allegheny, South and Boyce — campuses, and Community College of Beaver County Community College, Allegany (Md.), Potomac State College (W.Va.) and Garrett County (Md.).
