Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed reliever Colin Holderman had his rehab assignment ended Monday, was activated from the 15-day injured list (right thumb inflammation) and optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 29-year-old’s last big-league appearance came May 19.

The 2025 campaign has been one of injuries and struggles for Holderman, who has a 9.00 ERA in 14 games with the Pirates.

In April, he navigated a knee sprain that landed him on the injured list.

He had a 9.00 ERA over three outings and March, before it spiked to 13.50 in April, when he made five appearances before and after his first stint of the season on the injured list.

Upon returning in May, he was called upon six times out of the bullpen but allowed six runs in eight innings for a 6.75 ERA that month.

Holderman has pitched 15 total innings, allowing 15 runs with 11 strikeouts and 11 walks. Opposing hitters were batting .345 off him, and his WHIP was 2.07.

Holderman’s rehab assignment began June 26 with the Low-A Bradenton Marauders before he was transferred to the Indians on July 1.

He allowed runs in three of four combined rehab outings with the Marauders and Indians, posting an 11.57 ERA at Indianapolis over three appearances.
