Alexander Myres back with Steelers on practice squad after missing camp with illness
Twice now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have sought out Alexander Myres “out of nowhere.”
A rookie cornerback from Houston, Myres was signed by the Steelers immediately after the draft, and they reportedly gave him a $20,000 bonus that was their highest among any undrafted player this year.
Tuesday, they brought him back, signing him to the practice squad.
“Came out of nowhere the other day,” Myres said Thursday before his first in-season practice with the Steelers. “That same day I came up here and did the workout, and then they signed me. So it’s a blessing, honestly.”

Although he took part in offseason organized team activities and minicamp, Myres never made it onto the field for a training-camp practice at Saint Vincent. It later was revealed he had an illness, and he was waived July 31.
Myres on Thursday said he is fully healthy — “Everything is good now.” — and he is ready to embark on an NFL career in earnest. At 5-foot-11, 187 pounds and known as a strong hitter and good tackler and with special-teams experience, he is hoping he has a niche in the pro game.
“I feel like I bring versatility (to the secondary), and I can add on special teams,” he said.
