Pittsburgh Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen connects for a solo home run off Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane McClanahan during the third inning of a baseball game Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Andrew McCutchen may need to create some additional space on his trophy shelf.

Less than two weeks after collecting career hit No. 2,000 at PNC Park against the Mets, McCutchen hit his 400th career double Saturday in Miami against the Marlins.

The ground-rule double down the right field line in the top of the sixth inning off of Steven Okert was McCutchen’s 300th in a Pirates uniform and his first since May 31.

McCutchen ranks seventh all-time in doubles by a Pirate, with Pie Traynor immediately above him on that list with 371.

The Pirates trailed Miami, 2-0, at the time of McCutchen’s double.

Then, in the eighth, McCutchen hit career double No. 401, a grounder down the third base line off of Marlins reliever Dylan Floro.

McCutchen, who entered Saturday with 44 walks on the year — eighth across baseball — had added two more ahead of his first double.

The next major milestone within McCutchen’s grasp will be 300 home runs; he currently has 296 over his 14-year career.
