The honors keep rolling in for North Allegheny alum Alex Adams after a wonderful freshman season on the Carnegie Mellon women’s soccer team.
A forward, Adams was named third-team all-America by D3soccer.com.
She is only the third first-year player to be honored by the site. The teams were chosen by D3soccer.com staff, Division III coaches and sports information directors.
The only freshman, she was one of 33 players selected.
Earlier, she was named United Soccer Coaches Division III third-team All-America, University Athletic Association first-team and Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year. She was a two-time UAA Athlete of the Week.
Adams topped the conference with 34 points on 14 goals and six assists. She set the Carnegie Mellon freshman goal-scoring and points record.
She led the Tartans to the NCAA semifinals, which Adams said was her proudest accomplishment. The Tartans ended the season with a 14-5-3 record.
“It took a lot of work, but was definitely worth it,” she said. “The athletic season on top of school was very stressful.
“It’s all worth it to get to play on such a great (team).”
Adams, who plans to study mechanical engineering, said she will work on strength and conditioning in the offseason.
“Alex had an incredible first year,” Tartan coach Yon Struble said. “The recognition she received was earned through preparation, hard work and playing for (a) team that fought for one another (in) every game.
“The goal for Alex in the next year is to continue to be an outstanding attack-minded goal scorer (who) works hard on both sides of the ball.”
