He has been the unofficial face — and spokesman — of the NHL for more than a decade. As such, Sidney Crosby feels as comfortable facing a gaggle of reporters as he does encountering an opponent’s trap at the blue line.

So about the last thing the Pittsburgh Penguins have to worry about is their captain unintentionally giving away any secrets about the gameplan or saying anything inflammatory about first-round opponent New York Islanders now that the playoffs are here.

Crosby was asked if he puts any effort into withholding anything when he communicates with media.

“I don’t think there’s a lot of thought that goes in. I don’t really do it for 82 games, so I don’t really need to change it for the playoffs,” Crosby said. “It’s not really something I think about a whole lot. It’s just naturally something I try not to do.”
