Pitt-Greensburg did not have to look far to find its next women’s basketball coach.

Two-year assistant and former standout player Kelsey Oddis was waiting in the wings.

Oddis, a Burrell graduate, will be promoted to replace Hayley Schaetzle, who resigned after three seasons.

“I look forward to continuing to build the culture that I have been fortunate enough to be a part of as a player and an assistant coach here at Pitt-Greensburg,” Oddis said in a news release. “I am excited for this opportunity and to continue our team’s success on and off the court.”

A 2018 UPG graduate, Oddis was a tenacious rebounder and scored many of her points on high-percentage shots. She finished with 1,203 points, seventh in program history, and was a two-time All-AMCC selection. As as senior, she averaged 19.4 points and 11.4 rebounds.

UPG finished 17-10 last year for its first winning season since 2014-15 and won a playoff game for the first time in four years.

Schaetzle was named AMCC Coach of the Year.

Oddis, who also coaches the UPG cross country teams, recently obtained a master’s degree in sports management from Cal (Pa.).
