Houston Astros assistant general manager Brandon Taubman has been terminated less than a week after an alleged incident between him and a group of female reporters.

The Astros announced Taubman’s firing Thursday.

“Our initial investigation led us to believe that Brandon Taubman’s inappropriate comments were not directed toward any reporter. We were wrong,” the team said in a release.

The team also apologized to Sports Illustrated, writer Stephanie Apstein and “to all individuals who witnessed this incident or were offended by the inappropriate conduct.” Apstein wrote the story detailing the incident that led to Taubman’s firing.

The incident occurred after the Astros clinched the ALCS and a World Series berth Saturday at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Apstein wrote that Taubman “turned to a group of three female reporters, including one wearing a purple domestic-violence awareness bracelet, and yelled, half a dozen times, “Thank God we got Osuna! I’m so (expletive) glad we got Osuna!’ ”

The comments appeared to reference Astros closer Roberto Osuna, who “allegedly assaulted Alejandra Román Cota, the mother of his then-3-year-old child, in May 2018, as a member of the Blue Jays,” according to Sports Illustrated.
