Belle Vernon, Cal (Pa.) grad Parker Lynn joins Seton Hill baseball staff
As the Seton Hill baseball team made its way through the Division II Atlantic Regional and NCAA championships earlier this summer, Parker Lynn watched with interest.
During his time as a player and student assistant coach at Cal (Pa.), Lynn often competed against and admired the Griffins, a fellow foe in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
So when he saw SHU advance to play at Coleman Field in Cary, N.C., he wasn’t the least bit shocked they were there.
“From my time competing against SHU for four years at Cal U, their competitive and successful caliber of play was an attribute that did not go unnoticed,” said Lynn, a Belle Vernon Area and Cal graduate. “The incredible run they made this past year is a direct result of hard work and determination that I cannot wait to be a part of.”
After watching from afar, Lynn will get a closer look at the Griffins this fall. He announced Saturday that he will join Seton Hill’s coaching staff as an assistant to head coach Marc Marizzaldi.
“I am extremely excited to get the opportunity to coach in one of the top Division II conferences in the country again,” Lynn said. “The respect level I have for Seton Hill University, the baseball program and Coach Marizzaldi is through the roof, and I am very thankful for the opportunity to join their staff. This stepping stone will only continue to propel my coaching career.”
The 25-year-old Lynn already has established an impressive coaching resume.
He began as a student assistant with the Vulcans in 2016 before moving on to assistant coaching gigs at West Liberty and Salem.
He also served as the head coach of Little River Lagoon in the Beach Collegiate Baseball League and as an assistant coach for the North Adams SteepleCats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Additionally, Lynn spent three years as a scout for USA Baseball and served as head coach of the Altoona-based U.S. Elite 15U team in 2016.
Recently, Lynn served as director of baseball operations at Division I Gardner-Webb and was the manager of the Johnstown Mill Rats in the Prospect League, a summer collegiate league operating in six different states.
“My experience this summer as a head coach allowed me to handle adversity in a positive manner and use those experiences in my new role at SHU,” Lynn said. “After coming off a successful season last year, the student athletes and coaches are determined to continue to build a positive and winning culture with the ultimate goal of getting back to Cary to win a national championship.”
Seton Hill finished 39-8 overall and 23-4 in PSAC play this season.
