For the second time this season, Ben Roethlisberger has missed a full week of practice. This time, he is listed as questionable to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday against Washington.

Roethlisberger was an observer at practice Saturday with what the team has categorized as a knee injury. Coach Mike Tomlin did not specify an injury to Roethlisberger when he conducted his weekly press conference Thursday.

Roethlisberger also did not practice the week leading up to the Nov. 15 game against Cincinnati because he was on the reserve/covid-19 list. He started that game while only having a walkthrough to prepare for the Bengals.

The Steelers only had two official practices this week because of the short turnaround from their 19-14 victory against the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday in which Roethlisberger threw 51 passes. The Steelers will conduct a regular walkthrough Sunday, which will give Roethlisberger a chance to get some on-field preparation for the game Monday.

If Roethlisberger is unable to play, Mason Rudolph would make his first start of the season.

Cornerback Steven Nelson didn’t practice for a second day in a row with a knee injury and is listed as doubtful to play against Washington. Kicker Chris Boswell was an addition to the injury report Saturday. He did not practice with a hip injury.

If Boswell can’t play Monday, the Steelers will activate Matthew Wright from the practice squad. The Steelers recently added Wright as insurance for a Boswell injury.

All other players practiced Saturday, including running back Jaylen Samuels, who had missed two games because of a quadriceps injury.
