Bethel Park graduate Jake Dixon was one of four players the Pittsburgh Steelers waived Tuesday as they reduced their roster to the NFL-mandated 85 players.

Also waived were defensive tackle Doug Costin, punter Cameron Nizialek and center Chris Owen. Safety Karl Joseph (foot) and wide receiver Anthony Miller (shoulder) were placed on season-ending injured reserve.

In addition, the Steelers signed guard William Dunkle, who was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in May. He was released Sunday.

Dunkle made 30 starts at right guard at San Diego State.

Later Tuesday, the Steelers made one additional roster move, claiming center Ryan McCollum off waivers from the Detroit Lions and waiving center/guard Nate Gilliam. McCollum was signed as an undrafted free agent by Houston in 2021. The Lions signed him to the 53-man roster in October and remained with Detroit until Monday.

Dixon signed as an undrafted free agent out of Duquesne. He was competing for a roster spot as a tackle, but he did not get any snaps last Saturday in the preseason opener against Seattle.

Nizialek got all of the punting opportunities in the preseason opener and had a net average of 37.5 yards on four attempts. He had one touchback and one inside the 20.
