Betting odds suggest confidence Steelers will pick QB in 1st round
The Pittsburgh Steelers taking a quarterback in the first round of the draft. Wanna bet?
If so, at least according to one bookmaking website, odds are you’ll be correct. Bookies.com released its odds for the player the Steelers will select at No. 20 overall in the draft that begins Thursday night. The top five on the board are all quarterbacks.
Malik Willis of Liberty has the shortest odds at 3 ½-to-1 (+350). Pitt’s Kenny Pickett and Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder are tied for second at 4 ½-to-1, followed by Mississippi’s Matt Corral and North Carolina’s Sam Howell at 5-to-1.
The only non-quarterback bookies.com lists is mammoth Georgia defensive lineman Jordan Davis at 6 ½-to-1.
“The field” — anyone not listed above — can be had at 4 ½-to-1.
In the wake of the Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement in January after 18 seasons as the Steelers’ starting quarterback, the team signed Mitch Trubisky to a free-agent deal to compete with Mason Rudolph to be the new starter.
The team is expected to add another quarterback in the draft. Coach Mike Tomlin, outgoing general manager Kevin Colbert and other members of the organization have met multiple times with all of the top five QBs in this year’s draft, in addition to consensus No. 6 Carson Strong of Nevada.
