Tidbits: Claypool would become the first Canadian to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers since kicker Shaun Suisham (2010-14). … Joins defensive end Stephon Tuitt (and recently signed former XFL offensive lineman Jarron Jones) as Notre Dame products on the roster. … This is the fourth consecutive draft the Steelers took a wide receiver between picks 49-66: JuJu Smith-Schuster (No. 62 in 2017), James Washington (No. 60 in 2018), Diontae Johnson (No. 66 last year). … Claypool’s 40-yard dash time of 4.42 seconds was seventh-fastest among all wide receivers at the combine in February. According to ESPN, it’s the second-fastest for a player who weighs at least 230 pounds. … Claypool also ranked fifth among all receivers at the combine in bench-press reps (19) and vertical jump (40½ inches). … Claypool was the 11th wide receiver taken in the draft. He was rated 10th best at the position by ESPN’s Mel Kiper, 11th by ESPN’s Todd McShay and 13th by NFL.com draft rankings. … Claypool finished seventh in Notre Dame history in career receptions (150). His 13 TDs in 2019 were the sixth most in a season for a Fighting Irish player. … He was the Camping World Bowl MVP after having seven catches for 146 yards and a touchdown in a victory against Iowa State. … NFL.com terms Claypool “an outstanding blocker and immediate coverage ace on special teams.” Claypool excelled on special teams early in his college career.
