Blue Jays draft WVU center fielder Braden Berry in 8th round
After the Pittsburgh Pirates selected right-handed pitcher Carlson Reed in the fourth round of the MLB Draft, his teammate, junior outfielder Braden Barry, went to the Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth round (No. 244 overall) on Monday.
They are the 106th and 107th Mountaineers chosen all-time, including 37 under coach Randy Mazey, who has led the program since 2013. The Mountaineers have had at least one player taken in 10 of the past 11 years and all but four drafts since 1984.
Barry, named a second-team All-Big 12 performer, hit .290 with eight home runs, 19 doubles, four triples, 44 RBI, and 57 runs scored while starting every game in center field. He also stole 24 bases and recorded a .992 fielding percentage.
