The BMC Cheer Team Rampage based out of Brandy Marie Gymnastics in Sarver captured a national championship title at the Encore Championships Pittsburgh Division I and II event March 20 and 21 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The team performed routines for judges both days in the L2 Mini group for Division II, and their scores and points earned helped lift them to a sixth-place standing in the recent Encore Mid-Atlantic Region rankings for their level and age division.

Members of BMC Cheer Team Rampage are Madison Pomaybo, Riley George, Kylee Jones, Mia Walters, Haleigh River, Charlotte Toth, Hayden Brooks, Madison Heckman and Kyra Jones.

Kirstie Musco, the team’s coach since 2017, said she couldn’t have been more proud of its performance and the competitions over the past several months.

The Rampage got started last June, and the team met as often as it could while waiting out restrictions and facility shutdowns, along with many other similar teams, because of the covid pandemic.

Included in the setbacks was the closure of its gym in late December and early January under the orders of Gov. Tom Wolf and his administration.

“That made it tough to prepare for the competitions, but these girls didn’t give up,” Musco said. “They love to be together and perform together.”

The team members, ages 8 to 10, came together since the start of the new year and competed at a pair of virtual events and placed first in both. They also finished second at a pair of in-person events.

The team is gearing up for its next competition: The Shout Cheer and Dance Top of the Rock Championships on April 17 at the Greentree Sportsplex.
