A trio of starters sat out the first Pittsburgh Steelers practice of the week because of injury, but starting left guard Isaac Seumalo headlined a group of three of contributors who returned to practice.

Broderick Jones, Alex Highsmith and Darius Slay did not participate in Wednesday’s session at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, according to the league-mandated injury report. Slay, a cornerback, left this past Sunday’s loss at the Los Angeles Chargers because of a concussion.

Starting left tackle Jones is listed with a groin injury and outside linebacker Highsmith a pectoral injury, but neither player is expected to miss this coming Sunday’s home game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Also missing Wednesday were inside linebacker Cole Holcomb (illness) and cornerback Cory Trice Jr. (knee). Trice remains on injured reserve, and it is appearing as if his season is over. Holcomb was back in the facility after missing all of last week’s practice.

Seumalo was regarded as a limited practice participant after he did not practice at all last week and did not dress for the Chargers game. Seumalo had left each of the previous two games in the fourth quarter because of his pec injury.

Also returning to practice Wednesday to end absences of multiple games were receiver Scotty Miller (finger) and safety Jabrill Peppers (quadricep). Each was listed as a full participant.

Veterans T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward and Jonnu Smith were given the day off by coach Mile Tomlin.
