After missing three games and part of another for the birth of his third child — another boy — two-time All-Star outfielder Bryan Reynolds returned from paternity leave to rejoin the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Reynolds will start in right field and bat third in the order against the Texas Rangers on Saturday at PNC Park. He is batting .222/.295/.360 and leads the Pirates with 39 RBIs and is tied for second with 10 doubles and eight home runs.
To make room for Reynolds, the Pirates optioned outfielder/first baseman Billy Cook to Triple-A Indianapolis. Cook was 2 for 6 with one run in three games in the majors.
The Pirates also placed left-handed reliever Ryan Borucki on the 15-day injured list with low back inflammation and recalled right-hander Hunter Stratton from Indianapolis. Borucki was removed from the 6-2 loss to the Rangers on Friday night with one out in the ninth inning after giving up two walks and a double.
Stratton is 0-1 with one save, a 3.65 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 24 appearances in the minors. He has allowed four earned runs on six hits and one walk in 1 2/3 innings over two appearances for the Pirates.
