A former Cal (Pa.) women’s basketball standout is considered one of the country’s young, on-the-rise coaches.

Kaitlynn Fratz, an assistant at Maryland, was named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association 30-under-30 list for the 2019-20 season.

Fratz was selected for meeting the criteria of “involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner and attitude and professional association involvement.”

Maryland won its fourth Big Ten title in six years and finished 28-4, ending the season on a 17-game winning streak. The Terrapins were projected as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, which was canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Fratz, a native of Accident, Md., joined the Maryland staff in 2017 as the director of basketball operations and became an assistant last year.

She played her final two college seasons at Cal and led the Vulcans to the 2015 NCAA Division II national title. She was the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Championships as she averaged 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals. She scored 1,750 points over a career that saw her play two years at Pitt-Johnstown.
