The Cal (Pa.) and IUP women’s basketball teams are ranked No. 9 and No. 11, respectively, in the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon.

The Vulcans, idle since an 80-66 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Shippensburg on Dec. 7, rose two spots in the national rankings.

The loss was Cal’s first after seven straight victories to begin the season. The Vulcans were unranked in the preseason.

IUP, which also hasn’t played since Dec. 7, moved up two positions to No. 11.

The Crimson Hawks are 8-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. They have been ranked in the top 25 for 41 straight weeks dating back to the final poll of the 2016-17 season.

Cal and IUP are the only two PSAC teams in the top 25, but they are two of four from the Atlantic Region ranked.

Virginia Union (7-1) moved up two spots to No. 7, and Bowie State, undefeated at 9-0, debuts in the national poll this week at No. 23.

Cal returned to action Tuesday with a nonconference matchup against West Virginia State. IUP travels in PSAC play to Shepherd (W.Va.) on Friday and Shippensburg on Saturday.
