The 52nd annual Pennsylvania Karate Championships, a keystone event since the early 1970s, will be held Saturday at the Quality Inn in New Kensington.
The event, hosted by Caliguri’s Academy of Martial Arts in Lower Burrell, will welcome hundreds of martial artists.
Caliguri said the annual championship event is the oldest such tournament in Pennsylvania and third oldest in the nation.
There will be competitions in karate, kung fu, taekwondo and other styles featuring local and visiting contestants, ranging in age from 5 to 50 and up.
The event will begin at 10 a.m.with masters and grandmasters kata and weapons, followed by empty hand forms and under belt forms. A special added event will be grandmaster and masters kata, weapons and sparring.
There also will be sparring, starting with under black belt divisions and then black belts. Eight grand champion trophies will be awarded in the youth and adult divisions.
Spectators are welcome to attend Saturday, and tickets will be available at the gate.
