Cameron Heyward to Steelers defense: ‘Any guy pointing the finger, I’ll break that damn thing’

Shown here during a preseason game last month, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive captain Cameron Heyward is confident his team is sticking together during an 0-3 start.

A jovial type not unlike his father, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward doesn’t exactly serve in his role as team captain with a proverbial iron fist.

But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t dislike any infighting among his unit.

Heyward was asked Tuesday if in the locker room there was any finger-pointing – blaming others on the team – for the Steelers’ 0-3 start.

“It’s really easy not to point the finger,” Heyward said. “You look at our tape, there are mistakes everywhere. So for any guy pointing the finger, I’ll break that damn thing if they do.”

Heyward spoke softly, and he (obviously) was not being serious. But his underlying sentiment that the Steelers as a group are sticking together is one palpably felt throughout the locker room.

“The season is not over; we’re still hangin, we’re still gonna go get it,” safety Terrell Edmunds said. “It (0-3) is what it is. I can’t (brag) that much because we are 0-3. So I’m not going to say too much. Just know we are working, know we are coming harder, know that we believe in ourselves and know we are gonna bring it.”
