Campus clippings: No slowing down Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball

The Pitt-Greensburg women’s basketball team is on a roll.

The Bobcats made it five straight wins with a 58-45 victory over D’Youville on Monday as the Bobcats outscored the hosts in the fourth quarter, 18-4, in Buffalo, N.Y.

Junior Nadege Durand powered UPG (9-7, 7-4) with 25 points and 19 rebounds, sophomore Maddie Sitler scored 13 points and senior Colleen Murphy grabbed 10 rebounds.

Grove City: Sophomore forward Allison Podkul (Hempfield) had 13 points and six rebounds for the Wolverines (13-1, 5-1 PAC) in a 94-27 win over Thiel.

La Roche: Senior forward Jenna Cole (Norwin) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Athlete of the Week. She scored 11 of her season-high 21 points in the fourth quarter to power the Redhawks (10-4, 10-0 AMCC) to an 84-69 victory over Hilbert. In addition, she pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds and went 8 for 8 from the foul line. She also had 14 points and nine rebounds in a 57-47 victory over Franciscan. La Roche has won eight in a row.

Men’s basketball

Grove City: Junior guard Justice Rice (Monessen) had 20 points and five rebounds to help lead the Wolverines (8-7, 5-2 PAC) to a 91-80 overtime victory over Westminster. Rice also had a 20-point game in a 71-69 win over Thiel.

Long Island-Brooklyn: Senior guard Julian Batts (Jeannette) had 15 points, including three 3-pointers, in a 69-66 win over St. Francis Brooklyn.

Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore JoJo France had 18 points, including four 3-pointers, junior Matt Johnson added 17 points and five rebounds and senior Brady Kingston had 11 points to lead the Bobcats (13-2) to their sixth straight win, 79-68 at Alfred State.

In the previous win, 85-61 over Mt. Aloysius, sophomore Torian Jenkins scored a career-high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and France scored 23, Johnson 16 and senior Cody Spaid 14.

Wrestling

Seton Hill: The Griffins knocked off No. 24 Gannon with an 18-17 win on criteria; Seton Hill had 66 bout points to Gannon’s 65.

Sophomore Frank Bonura won by technical fall at 125 pounds, and fifth-year senior Austin Shaw (Greensburg Salem) at 141 and junior Jake Beistel (Southmoreland) at 285 had decision wins for the Griffins.

Thiel: Freshman 141-pounder Jason Baker (Derry) scored a pin in his match as the Tomcats edged Washington & Jefferson, 24-23.

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Jaden Datz (Southmoreland) picked up an 11-5 victory for the Presidents at 184 pounds in a 24-23 loss to Thiel.

Men’s indoor track & field

Seton Hill: Senior Dominic Frisina was named the PSAC Athlete of the Week after he finished second in the 400-meter dash at the Youngstown State Invitational with a time of 48.83 seconds, the fastest time in the conference this season.
