Canucks sign former Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph
Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks worth $775,000.
He is scheduled to be a restricted free agent at the conclusion of the contract.
Joseph, 26, has spent the bulk of his professional career with the Penguins.
Following five seasons with the Penguins organization between 2019 and 2024, Joseph signed with the St. Louis Blues as an unrestricted free agent last offseason. But by Dec. 18, he was traded back to the Penguins.
In total, Joseph skated in 47 games last season and recorded three assists while averaging 15 minutes, 16 seconds of ice time.
The left-handed Joseph (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) just completed a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $950,000. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday but the Penguins declined to extend a qualifying offer, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.
Joseph joins a Canucks franchise that is led by several former members of the Penguins’ front office including president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford and general manager Patrik Allvin.
Following this transaction, six players who finished the 2024-25 season under contract with the Penguins remain unsigned, either with an NHL or American Hockey League club or a squad in Europe:
Forwards — Emil Bemstrom, Marc Johnstone, Mathias Laferriere, Matt Nieto
Defensemen — Matt Grzelcyk Colton Poolman
