Captain Albano claims $350,000 Adios final at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows
Captain Albano, who was the 1-2 favorite, won the $350,000 final of the Delvin Miller Adios Pace for the Orchids on Saturday evening at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
He held off Wish You Well for the victory in 1 minute, 49.2 seconds to match a career best.
Captain Albano was last year’s Dan Patch Award winner for freshman males as well as Pennsylvania’s champion. He posted a 1:21.2 three-quarters time and then held off a challenge in the Lightning Lane to win by a neck.
Timeisonmyside, who reached the final as a 47-1 long shot, earned the show. Noblesville was fourth.
“I’ll be honest with you,” said driver Todd McCarthy, who won his first Adios. “He was a little tired, it was a real big mile. But when I heard (jockey) David (Miller) coming late, I asked him to go on, and he went that little bit more.”
Miller said he wished he found the Lightning Lane sooner.
“I would like to have sat in the two hole, but I’m happy to be second,” Miller said. “He raced great. He raced great both weeks here.”
