Another Women’s Premier Soccer League team is coming to the city of Pittsburgh, ahead of the 2021 season.

On Saturday, the WPSL, which is entering its 23rd season and is the largest women’s soccer league in the world with more that 130 clubs in 35 states, announced Century United would become an expansion team.

Century United will join the Pittsburgh Hotspurs FC in the league.

“Century is honored to be given an opportunity to join the WPSL for the 2021 season,” Century United general manager Dave Gray said in a news release. “The WPSL is the perfect cap to our club’s current player development model.”

Since 1984, Century United has asserted itself as one of the top soccer clubs in western Pennsylvania. The club has more than 80 competitive teams and trains more than 1,500 players.

In the past four years, 209 players have reached the collegiate level, which is something Gray believes will have a major impact on the club moving forward as they join the WPSL.

“We are now able to offer a program that will not only provide a platform for our college level players to continue to grow and prepare for their upcoming season but will allow our senior players an opportunity to develop within a higher level of framework,” Gray said.

For their first season in the WPSL, Century United will be coached by Erica Marshall and assisted by Randi Rohm. Century United home games will be played at the Century United Complex.
