Chartiers Valley, Duquesne alum Christian Kuntz returns to Steelers roster
Christian Kuntz is getting a second chance to crack the Pittsburgh Steelers roster.
Kuntz, the Chartiers Valley and Duquesne standout, became the fourth XFL player this week to agree to a contract with the Steelers.
Kuntz, 25, played linebacker in college, but he served as the Dallas Renegades long snapper in the XFL until the upstart league’s first season was canceled after five weeks because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Kuntz spent 16 days with the Steelers during training camp last summer. As a linebacker, he played in the preseason finale against Carolina and had five tackles and a sack.
Kuntz joins former XFL players Cavon Walker, a defensive end; Jarron Jones, an offensive tackle; and safety Tyree Kinnel on the Steelers offseason roster.
At Duquesne, Kuntz is the only player to earn three STATS FCS All-America honors. He and long-time NFL cornerback Leigh Bodden are the only two-time AP All-Americans in program history.
Kuntz had a school-record 30.5 sacks and his 71.5 career tackles for loss rank sixth on the FCS all-time list.
