Chatham men’s hockey coach Michael Gershon will be leading another team next summer.

The Moon resident has been named head men’s hockey coach for Team USA’s open team at the Maccabiah Games, which will be held next July in Israel.

“I believe that any time you can represent your country it is a honor, but to add to that the ability to do that in Israel as a person of Jewish faith is extra special,” he said.

“My top goal is to win the first gold medal in men’s ice hockey in the open division. Another goal is to be able to represent my country for the first time.”

Gershon is in his second season as head coach at Chatham. He previously coached for four seasons at Robert Morris and was a head coach, president and general manager for teams in the North American Hockey League.

He is also a member of USA Hockey and the American Hockey Coaches Association.

Gershon played at SUNY-Brockport and was named second-team All-SUNYAC his senior year. He then played for the Wheeling Nailers, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ affiliate team of the East Coast Hockey League, and the Port Huron Icehawks in the International Hockey League.
