Washington County finished just a few innings short of a crowd-pleasing win at the PONY League World Series championship game Wednesday night at EQT Park.

Washington took a three-run lead into the bottom of the fifth inning but fell 6-4 to Chinese Taipei, which won its 11th World Series crown.

Washington jumped out to a 3-0 advantage on a home run by Kaden Harkins in the fourth and an RBI double by Lucas Daniels and RBI single by Luke Henderson in the fifth.

Chinese Taipei rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the game over. Winning pitcher Zi-Han Yang hit a two-run single and Yu-Tang Li added an RBI double.

Henderson delivered his second RBI single in the seventh inning for Washington, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.

Chinese Taipei went 6-1 in the tournament. Washington finished 3-1.
