Claypool returns to Steelers practice; Watt, Haden, Turner, Dotson do not practice
As coach Mike Tomlin alluded to Tuesday, wide receiver Chase Claypool returned to Pittsburgh Steelers practice Wednesday. But early indications are that Tomlin’s “confidence” in regards to Trai Turner might have been less founded.
Turner, the Steelers’ veteran starting right guard, did not practice Wednesday because of an ankle injury that he suffered during this past Sunday’s tie with the Detroit Lions. During his weekly press conference, Tomlin said he “(felt) confident” Turner would be available this week.
Tomlin indicated less faith about starting left guard Kevin Dotson — who also left the Lions game because of an ankle injury — and Dotson also did not practice Wednesday, per the league-mandated injury report.
Star outside linebacker T.J. Watt did not practice, either, after he did not play in the fourth quarter or overtime Sunday because of a hip/knee injury.
Claypool did not practice at all last week and did not play against Detroit because of a toe injury that emerged after the Steelers’ Nov. 8 win against the Chicago Bears. His participation in Wednesday’s practice was termed as limited.
