Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame linebacker Jack Lambert is auctioning off the plastic container that held his teeth during games.

“Teeth not included.”

That is the final line in the description for Lot. No. 590 of the Lelands Spring Classic collection, and it pertains to perhaps the most unusual item the famed auction house ever has put on the block.

It is the container that once held Jack Lambert’s teeth.

The Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker is putting his personal football collection up for auction. Among the mementos Lambert is parting with is the plastic holder he used to store his false teeth during games.

Calling it a “most unusual but intriguing and important piece of football history,” Lelands offered a colorful description of Lambert’s teeth holder.

“Some of the most recognizable photos of Lambert on the gridiron are of his menacing grimace, missing his front teeth; this is where those teeth resided until after the games were over,” Lelands wrote. “Light blue plastic container has ‘58’ in bold black marker on the top and on the front, on one side Jack has written ‘Teeth Holder in Locker’ and on the other side he has signed and inscribed with his number 58 and ‘HOF ‘90’ in black Sharpie. Teeth not included.”

Bidding on the container, as well as 22 other items in the Lambert collection, began Feb. 25 and runs through April 2. The teeth holder has an opening bid of $300. So far, nobody has, um, bitten on the offer.

Lambert, 68, retired after the 1984 season and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990. Famously reclusive in retirement, Lambert resides in Worthington and makes an occasional public appearance at autograph sessions.

Other items Lambert has elected to put up for auction at Lelands.com include:

• An autographed game-worn helmet from the 1976 Pro Bowl, the first of nine that Lambert was selected to. It already has a high bid of $7,320.

• A game-worn jersey from another of his Pro Bowl appearances, believed to be from a game played between 1977-79. It already has a high bid of $3,630.

• The game ball from Super Bowl XIV when Lambert intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter that helped seal the Steelers’ 31-19 victory against the Los Angeles Rams for the franchise’s fourth championship. It also is autographed.

• An autographed game ball from the AFC championship game against Oakland following the 1975 season when Lambert had three fumble recoveries in the 16-10 victory.

• Trophies from when Lambert was named to the Steelers’ 50th anniversary team and the NFL’s 75th anniversary team.

• Lambert’s letterman’s jacket from Kent State, plus trophies he won while in college.
