Police: Former Pitt player charged in connection with Clairton shooting, South Hills pursuit
A former University of Pittsburgh football player turned himself in to authorities Wednesday morning after police accused him of being involved in a shooting in Clairton and pursuit throughout the South Hills earlier this month.
Paris Ford, 25, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of shooting into an occupied structure and reckless endangerment, according to Allegheny County Police.
Ford is currently in the Allegheny County Jail, police said.
On March 15, Clairton police were dispatched to the 800 block of 3rd Street at 11:40 a.m. for reports of shots fired into a residence. Officers said they learned that three men had driven away from the scene, county police said.
At 12:15 p.m. that day, Whitehall and Brentwood police reported spotting the vehicle on Route 51 and attempted a traffic stop, county police said. The car stopped and multiple men ran from the vehicle. Police took one male into custody.
The car was later located in Bethel Park and police there then began a pursuit, county police said. At 12:44 p.m., the car lost control and crashed at the intersection of Library and Clifton roads. At that time, two men fled from the scene but were later taken into custody after a brief pursuit, county police said.
Three men were taken into custody following the initial incidents and three firearms were recovered, police said.
Jaylin Howard, 26, of Detroit was charged with persons not to possess a firearm and Donye Felton, 25, of Penn Hills was charged with carrying a firearm without a license and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer. The third man taken into custody was released, police said.
County police say further investigation and surveillance footage show Ford fleeing from the car during the first traffic stop on Route 51.
