First call: Jerry Rice says Antonio Brown wants to join 49ers 'really bad'

In Tuesday's "First Call," Jerry Rice is going to make Antonio Brown a 49er if it's the last thing he does! Also, don't expect the Colts to chase Brown or Le'Veon Bell.

Here we go again

Jerry Rice says Antonio Brown really wants to play in San Francisco.

It appears Rice really wants the 49ers to acquire him.

We already told you how Rice blew off any concerns about Brown's volatile temperament during a recent 95.7 The Game radio appearance. During the interview, he endorsed the notion of the team pursuing Brown on the trade market.

Monday, Rice made a return appearance on the station and said that he has been in contact with A.B.

"He wants to come here really bad," Rice told the radio station.

"If it was left up to me, he'd be here in a heartbeat."

According to Rice, the two are already discussing recreating Rice's training routine.

"He's talking about running the hill with me, working out and just picking my brain."

This FaceTime post between the two was also included on the station's website.

If Brown gets traded there, I put the "over-under" on his first sideline blowup with Jimmy Garoppolo or Kyle Shanahan at Week 3.

Off the board?

Speaking of Antonio Brown (since we always are), one team perceived to be a contender for his services may not be in the bidding as much as we thought.

The same can be said regarding Le'Veon Bell.

The Colts frequently have been rumored as a club that may want to acquire one — or both — of the Steelers disgruntled superstars.

But the Indianapolis Star says don't bank on it. Columnist Gregg Doyel believes general manager Chris Ballard doesn't want any part of the chemistry concerns connected with those two. The premise is that the Colts have a good thing going as it is. And while Bell and Brown might be uber-talented, they may rock the boat.

Kinda hard to argue with that concern right about now.

Very happy anniversary

Here's another timely Steelers-Colts connection.

Monday marked the 23rd anniversary of the 1995-96 AFC Championship Game at Three Rivers Stadium.

After heartbreaking playoff failures in each of Bill Cowher's first three years as head coach, the Steelers looked poised to finally reach the Super Bowl for the first time in 17 seasons.

Until Jim Harbaugh and Aaron Bailey almost pulled off this trick with five seconds remaining.

Every time I see that play, I'm caught by the momentary audible silence when the stadium thinks Bailey caught the ball.

After Harbaugh's bomb went incomplete, the Steelers went onto Arizona and beat the Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX. And Neil O'Donnell didn't throw any interceptions to Larry Brown at all.

At least, that's how I choose to remember how it went down.

Oh, we're not done?

Fun fact, today marks the anniversary of another fairly famous Steelers-Colts game.

Remember the 2006 AFC Divisional Round game in Indianapolis? I'm sure Mike Vanderjagt does. No matter how hard he tries to forget.

I bet Nick Harper remembers Ben Roethlisberger's tackling skills, too.

Was it mentioned that Harper's wife stabbed him in the knee with a steak knife 22 hours earlier? I think that was mentioned. Was that mentioned?
