Corliss Waitman again is handling the punting duties for the Pittsburgh Steelers during Monday night’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Waitman was signed a day before last week’s game at the Kansas City Chiefs following the death of the father of rookie punter Pressley Harvin III. Harvin missed practices all this week.

A first-year player who was part of the Steelers’ practice squad as a rookie last season, Waitman averaged 60.5 yards on two punts in his NFL debut against the Chiefs.

Veteran guard Rashaad Coward and special-teamer Trey Edmunds also were elevated from the practice squad to the Steelers’ active roster for the must-win game against the Browns.

The Steelers are without four significant contributors on defense who are among six players on the team’s covid-19 list. That includes starting inside linebackers Devin Bush and Joe Schobert as well as slot cornerback Arthur Maulet and defensive lineman Chris Wormley.

Two reserves on offense — tackle Zach Banner and running back Anthony McFarland Jr. — also are not in uniform against the Browns because of covid.

Rookie linebacker Buddy Johnson is not playing because of a foot injury, and the Steelers’ healthy scratches are No. 3 quarterback Dwayne Haskins and defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs.
