Covid prevents defensive coordinator Keith Butler from Steelers for game vs. Ravens
BALTIMORE — The Pittsburgh Steelers will play their regular-season finale without their defensive coordinator.
Keith Butler will not be coaching during Sunday’s game at the Baltimore Ravens, a team spokesman said via a post on his verified Twitter account Saturday evening. Butler went into NFL covid-19 protocol Wednesday.
The Steelers say Butler’s duties will be handled by head coach Mike Tomlin and senior defensive assistant/secondary coach Teryl Austin. Each has been a coordinator in the NFL before, and Tomlin is known to have a heavy influence in the gameday defensive calls even when Butler is available.
Butler is in his seventh season as the Steelers defensive coordinator and 19th season on the team’s defensive staff.
