Cranberry's Matt Vogt ties course record at Indianapolis golf club
Weeks after hitting the first shot in the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, golfer Matt Vogt tied a record at a course near Indianapolis.
The Cranberry native posted photos on social media Sunday showing he scored 62, tying the record set in 2020 by Eric Steger at Highland Golf and Country Club. The achievement came after Vogt, a 34-year-old dentist who lives near Indianapolis, competed earlier this month in the U.S. Open at the Oakmont course where he served as caddie for years in high school and college.
In the photos posted to social media, Vogt held up his scorecard standing next to a framed scorecard commemorating Steger’s record-setting outing. Par for the course is 70.
A 2009 Seneca Valley graduate, Vogt earned a spot among the world’s top golfers at the U.S. Open as a medalist at a qualifier round. He is an accomplished amateur golfer who has won Indiana PGA events, including the Indianapolis Open the past two years, and competed in the U.S. Amateur at Oakmont in 2021. In high school, Vogt placed fourth in the state as a senior.
