Daryn Freedman is a well-traveled man.

In 25-plus years, basketball has given him a tour of the eastern part of the country and provided coaching opportunities at several levels.

But with his family here, Western Pennsylvania has become his landing spot for jobs. His latest one will be in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association as the head men’s coach at Penn State Greater Allegheny.

The USCAA fields 77 small-college programs nationally.

Freedman recently worked at Point Park for two seasons as an associate head coach.

He also held head coaching positions at Gateway and at The Kiski School.

Freedman spent nearly a decade as an assistant to Moon native John Calipari, the coach at Kentucky. He followed the Hall of Famer to stops at Massachusetts, where he earned a degree and was a student assistant and practice player, to the then-New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers as an operations and scouting assistant.

He later joined Calipari as the director of basketball operations at Memphis.

Freedman also was an assistant under Ron Everhart at Northeastern and at Duquesne.

He runs the developmental/AAU program, Basketball Stars of America, and has worked the elite Five-Star camp where he worked with LeBron James, Chris Paul and Kevin Durant, among others.
