David DeCastro returned to a Pittsburgh Steelers practice Wednesday for the first time in almost four weeks, signaling the five-time Pro Bowl guard could be ready to make his season debut Sunday against the Houston Texans.
DeCastro was listed as a full participant on the practice report released by the Steelers. Pool video released by the team from the workout showed him with a brace on his left knee, which he injured during an intrasquad scrimmage Aug. 28.
DeCastro has been the Steelers starting right guard since his rookie season in 2012. He’d missed only two games because of injury since 2013 — because of a broken hand early in 2018 — before missing the Steelers’ two victories to open this season.
Stefen Wisniewski started the opener at the New York Giants but suffered a pectoral injury during the game. Rookie fourth-round pick Kevin Dotson started last week’s win against the Denver Broncos.
“He’s an awesome guy to be around not just on the field but off the field, too, so having him back is huge for us because Dave is a pro,” receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster said. “He’s a vet. This is what he does, and he’s been doing it for a very long time.”
