Deer Lakes graduate Michael Sullivan has been drafted by MLS club Toronto FC.

Sullivan, a midfielder who just completed his senior season at Pitt, was selected with the ninth pick of the second round, 39th overall, of the MLS SuperDraft.

Sullivan played 67 games in four years with the Panthers, recording six goals and two assists. He’s a two-time ACC All-Academic honoree. The Panthers made the NCAA Tournament in all four of Sullivan’s seasons and this year, won the ACC regular season championship for the first time.

At Deer Lakes, Sullivan had 69 goals and 51 assists and led the Lancers to the program’s first WPIAL championship in 2020.

The MLS SuperDraft, which includes three rounds, is for players who have completed their college careers or otherwise signed with MLS, though clubs have increasingly leaned on their youth academies to produce young players.

Other regional college players selected Friday include West Virginia midfielder Ryan Baer (Seattle, No. 28), Penn State forward Caden Grabfelder (Montreal, No. 50) and Penn State defender Mohamed Cisset (Dallas, No. 71)
