Despite mysterious Instagram post, Cam Sutton remains with Steelers
After sending Steeler Nation into a frenzy with a cryptic Instagram post Tuesday night, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cam Sutton was present and accounted for Wednesday, quashing speculation that he was on the verge of being traded.
Sutton attended practice, which was moved indoors at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex because of inclement weather. The Steelers included a picture of Sutton practicing in their daily gallery of photos made available to the media.
A source said the Steelers have no plans to trade Sutton, a versatile defensive back who is in his fourth season with the team and will become an unrestricted free agent in March.
On Tuesday night, Sutton posted a three-panel Instagram story. Each panel contained a black background. The first panel contained a peace sign emoji, the second had the words “Stay tuned” written at the bottom, and the third had an “OK” emoji followed by the word “yessirrr.”
Fans on social media speculated that Sutton was on the verge of being traded because he allegedly stopped following the Steelers’ account on Instagram. However, Sutton’s Instagram page still contains several images of the cornerback wearing Steelers gear, including the most recent post on Aug. 27.
Sutton played a season-high 58% of the defensive snaps Sunday and contributed four tackles and two pass breakups in the Steelers’ 27-24 victory against the Tennessee Titans that improved their record to 6-0. Sutton’s playing time increased because slot cornerback Mike Hilton missed the game with a shoulder injury.
A third-round pick in the 2017 draft, Sutton has started just twice in 42 career games, but he never has publicly displayed any satisfaction with his role on the Steelers. He has played 35% of all defensive snaps for the season, a career high.
