District college football: Both QBs top 400 yards as Geneva beats Saint Vincent
Caleb Romano went 31 of 41 passing for 484 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions and also ran for a score to lead Geneva to a 55-35 PAC victory over Saint Vincent that saw the teams combine for nearly 1,000 passing yards.
Jake Phillips was 29 for 51 for 481 yards and four touchdowns, all to Chris Downs, who had 11 catches for 279 yards for Saint Vincent (1-2, 0-1).
Keaton Baker caught 12 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns for the Golden Tornadoes (1-2, 1-0).
Division II
Bloomsburg 34, Edinboro 18 – In nonconference play, K.J. Riley threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg (1-2) over Edinboro (1-2). Jerry Griffen-Batchler caught four passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns for Bloomsburg. Nico Marchitelli threw for 212 yards and a touchdown to Junior Aderomilehin, who caught nine passes for 104 yards. Edinboro’s Amari Jones had eight tackles and returned an interception 80 yards for the touchdown of the game.
Cal (Pa.) 42, Lock Haven 6 – Bobbie Boyd Jr. ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns as No. 8 Cal (Pa.) (3-0) scored 35 first-half points on the way to beating Lock Haven (1-2) in nonconference play. Roman Purcell threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns and added 48 rushing yards for the Vulcans. Jack Ostrowsky threw for 149 yards and Lock Haven’s lone touchdown.
Clarion 51, Shepherd 38 – Anthony Guercio threw for 413 yards and two touchdowns as Clarion (4-0) amassed 603 yards of offense in its nonconference win over Shepherd (0-3). Davon Jones caught eight passes for 103 yards and a touchdown for Clarion while Holt Egan had six receptions for 121 yards. Khalon Simmons led Clarion’s ground game with 84 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Jordan Barnett ran for 212 yards and two touchdowns for Shepherd, which had 530 yards of offense.
IUP 70, Millersville 24 – Matthew Rueve went 19 for 22 for 443 yards and six touchdowns as IUP (2-1) scored a nonconference rout of Millersville (0-3). Maurice Massey caught six passes for 173 yards and four touchdowns and Jeremiah Coleman made two grabs for 123 yards and two scores for the Crimson Hawks, who racked up 717 yards of offense.
Kutztown 46, Gannon 7 – Steven Burkhardt ran for 120 yards and a touchdown as No. 5 Kutztown (3-0) downed Gannon (0-4) in a nonconference game. Judd Novak tossed for 63 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 43 yards for Kutztown. Tristen Kenan paced Gannon’s offense with 68 rushing yards and one touchdown.
Slippery Rock 42, Shippensburg 0 – DaOne Owens threw for 252 yards and four touchdowns and Slippery Rock (3-0) forced six turnovers – three interceptions and three fumbles – in a win over Shippensburg (0-3). Joe White returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown and JayJay Jordan ran for 102 yards for The Rock.
West Chester 34, Seton Hill 16 – Cooper Jordan threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 112 yards and two more scores to power West Chester (2-1) to a nonconference win. Bodie St. Marie and Hayden Teska split time at quarterback for Seton Hill (2-2), which was outgained 406-234. St. Marie threw for 90 yards and a touchdown and Teska threw for 87 yards and a score. Ky’ron Craggette ran 13 times for 64 yards.
Division III
Allegheny 26, Thiel 0 – Dominic Beradu ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Allegheny (1-2, 1-0) held Thiel (0-3, 0-1) to 141 yards of offense in a PAC win. Carson Colucci threw for 157 yards and a touchdown and Devin Larry caught five balls for 100 yards for the Gators.
Carnegie Mellon 17, Berry 9 – Joey McGinnis IV threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 118 yards to lead No. 22 Carnegie Mellon (2-1) to the nonconference win over No. 20 Berry (2-1). Reece Kolke caught two passes for 61 yards and a 38-yard touchdown for the Tartans. Andrew Hunter threw for 173 yards and a touchdown and added 53 rushing yards for Berry.
Waynesburg 35, Hiram 27 – Zayne Cawley ran 29 times for 230 yards and three touchdowns and Marcus Crum Jr. intercepted two passes to lead Waynesburg (1-2, 1-0) in its PAC opener. Luke Hudson was 17 of 19 passing for 174 yards and two touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets. Sean Tejada threw for 439 yards and three touchdowns and Kevin Dycks caught six passes for 169 yards and a touchdown for Hiram (1-2, 0-1).
Westminster 28, Case Western 23 – Brite Canon scored on a 100-yard kickoff return and an 80-yard pass from Sean O’Shea, finishing with six catches for 126 yards, to lead Westminster (2-1, 1-0) to a PAC win. Clayton Cannon Jr. ran 18 times for 67 yards and a touchdown for the Titans. Sam DeTillio threw for 386 yards two touchdowns and an interception for Case Western (0-2, 0-1).
Division I FCS
Delaware State 30, St. Francis 10 – James Jones ran seven times for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 90-yard scoring run in the second quarter, to lead Delaware State (3-1) past St. Francis (0-4). Nick Whitfield Jr. threw for 265 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for the Red Flash. Brenden Hodge caught six passes for 134 yards.
Montana State 17, Mercyhurst 0 – Julius Davis and Adam Jones ran for touchdowns and Montana State (2-2) had 10 tackles for loss in a win over Mercyhurst (1-3), which went 4 for 14 on third down and was held to 58 yards rushing. Adam Urena threw for 206 yards with an interception while Rylan Davison had 84 yards receiving on seven catches for the Lakers.
